Default 3/18/08 - Balance a Skill a Day - Turret Ranger

So, let's play some pretend. Izzy is out on vacation for awhile, and you're the only guy ArenaNet has to balance the game. Since you aren't as experienced in the matter, rather than let you go wild, ArenaNet (thats me, yes, I am like, 100 people, cause I'm just that good.) decides to throw 1 skill a day at you, and let you attempt to balance it!

You can do anything Izzy would do, which means you may buff any part of a skill, nerf any part of a skill, and/or change functionality. It also means that you may not just "remove skill from game".

You can also discuss with other poster's on their ideas on how to balance the skill of the day, and maybe come to a group decision in some cases.

Please don't screw this topic up, it's meant to be a kind of light-hearted topic to just mix stuff up in the midst of a bunch of overly serious topics. That isn't to say that you shouldn't take this serious, please do! But please don't attack anyone in the process.


Anyways, ArenaNet comes up to you and says they want you to look at Avatar of Melandru, and fix it.

Elite Form. For 10...58 seconds, you have +100 Health, you are unaffected by Conditions, and your attacks deal earth damage. This Skill is disabled for 120 seconds.

How do you fix it?

- You are only immune if you are not under the effects of an enchantment.

Or....

- Change the immunity to Removal of Condition when using an Attack skill.

Elite Form. For 10...58 seconds, you have +100 Health, Conditions you are afflicted with have their durations decreased by 50%, and your attacks deal earth damage. This Skill is disabled for 120 seconds.

Depending on testing I would have the % fluctuate between 50...66...75, but that would be my fix.

Consider Avatar of Melandru an enchantment and let it be stripped(not sure if it is strippable or not), (make it go off of mysticism it can't be used cross proffesions... nvm it is mysticism)

That's not too strong of a nerf you know! With Featherfoot Grace you'd have 75% reduction already with just 50%. That's pretty harsh Not as bad as full on immunity, but y'know...

This is one hell of a functionality change, since it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the avatars any more since they conform to a skill type by association.

I have another possible Idea:

- You lose and Enchantment everytime you'd be hit by a condition. To balanced it further, it could be made that you need to have an enchantment on you to be immune, but up the duration.

The problem with needing an enchantment to be immune is that enchantments are probably going to be up on the derv when you'd want to be immune anyways, so I don't think it'd do much, personally.

Still allows you to get blind off before the Wearying Strike, and it makes Wearying Strike's penalty noticeable to a degree, as the Eremite's base damage will be weaker.

I guess 50% was a good number now that you mentioned that though.

True enough, and it was a quickly thought up idea. And out of curiousity, is this thread to test how much the community know about skill balancing, fun, or for ideas?

Maybe it isn't, you're just being forwarded feedback by "Andrew", and we all know how that troublesome playerbase is....

You could not do anything to the skill at hand, if you so desire, if you think thats whats right! Hope you have a good reason for it though, because I think being completely 100% immune to a huge facet of the game is a bit overpowered.

For 10..58 secs you have +100hp, your attacks deal earth damage and every time you successfully hit with an attack you lose 1 condition.

To fix Avatar of Melandru :

15/4/30, disabled 120s, for 60-120s : deal earth damage, health is double, armor +20 (barkskin), condition don't affect you, all normal animal within earshot become controlled by you (like otyugh shout) for the duration of the avatar. You lose avatar immediately and all existent condition for 20-5s if you move to an unatural area.

PS I am a militant of the NO SKILL CHANGE movement. So I post for fun here.

PPS : Shuuda you have not read the OP and are being rude.

Except this is a terrible topic for a serious pvp discussion area because most people would be way worse at game balance than even izzy, and just end up spamming their random opinions. Let alone one topic like this per day.

Sad thing is izzy probably wont touch this skill since its really the only reason to bring a derv for gvg anyway.
